SIERRA-AT-TAHOE® RESORT RECOGNIZES NATIONAL SAFETY WEEK
Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort encourages safe skiing and riding with fun activities
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Jan. 7, 2011 – Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is joining forces with The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) for National Safety Week to educate skiers, riders and employees about the importance of safety on the slopes. Sierra Resort has planned a week of fun activities both on and off the mountain from January 15 through 20, 2011. All activities are free and open to the public.
Safety Week Information Station
The entire week, Sierra™ Resort will offer a Safety Information Station that is designed to communicate the Responsibility Code as well as overall safety on the slopes. The station will be located right next to Grandview Express and offers skiers and boarders a chance to share their knowledge of the Responsibility Code for prizes, as well as participate in activities for all ages.
Wild Mountain Kid’s Poster Contest
Going on all week at the Wild Mountain Children’s Center, kids are invited to participate in the National Kid’s Safety Poster Contest. The kids will get a chance to create a poster based on the responsibility and smart style codes and at the end of the week a winner will be selected. The winning poster will then be submitted to NSAA’s national contest where they will compete against posters made by kids at ski areas across the country.Winning posters will then be published in the August/September 2010 issue of the NSAA Journal.
Smart Style Video
The entire week visitors and terrain park enthusiasts will be able to watch the Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort Smart Style videoon the resort’s closed circuit TV station throughout the resort. The Smart Style video illustrates, educates, and reinforces the NSAA Smart Style codes and focuses on terrain park safety and etiquette.
Speed Awareness
In order to educate skiers and snowboarders about their speed on the mountain, Sierra Resort will be making people aware that “Objects are Closer Than They Appear”. Throughout the week, Sierra Resort’s Ski Patrol and Mountain Safety will be testing skiers and snowboarders knowledge of their own speed using the Sierra Speed Gun. Skiers and riders who can correctly guess their speed will get a token for a free hot chocolate.
Safety Awareness for Local School Kids
In an effort to help educate the local community, members of Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort’s Ski Patrol, including patrol dogs, will host assemblies at local elementary schools to talk about search procedures, dog rescue, safety codes and smart style.
